The route that Juan de Onate discovered to New Mexico is now known as the El Camino Real. It is a trail that people can follow and learn the history of Onate, and New Mexico. Sometimes the El Camino Real is referred to as "the royal road" because of all of the trade and commerce that took place after it was discovered. However, it was also given this nickname because it passes through so many major cities including San Juan Pueblo, Albuquerque, El Paso, Chihuahua, Santa Fe, and Mexico City.
